The Most Delicious and Authentic Chocoflan Recipe

Chocoflan, also known as “Impossible Cake,” is a delightful Mexican dessert that combines rich chocolate cake and creamy caramel flan. It’s a showstopper for any occasion, and surprisingly simple to make. Here’s how you can create this decadent treat at home.

Ingredients:

For the Caramel:

  • 1 cup sugar

For the Flan:

  • 1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 can (12 ounces) evaporated milk
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Chocolate Cake:

  • 1 box of chocolate cake mix
  • 3 large eggs (or as per the cake mix instructions)
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil (or as per the cake mix instructions)
  • 1 cup water (or as per the cake mix instructions)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Caramel:
    • In a medium saucepan, melt the sugar over medium heat until it turns into a golden caramel. Carefully pour the caramel into a Bundt pan, swirling to coat the bottom evenly. Set aside to cool and harden.
  2. Make the Flan:
    • In a blender, combine the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, eggs, and vanilla extract. Blend until smooth and set aside.
  3. Prepare the Chocolate Cake:
    • Follow the instructions on the box to make the chocolate cake batter, mixing the eggs, oil, and water with the cake mix until well combined.
  4. Assemble the Chocoflan:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Pour the flan mixture over the hardened caramel in the Bundt pan.
    • Carefully pour the chocolate cake batter over the flan mixture. Don’t worry if they mix a little; they will separate during baking.
  5. Bake:
    • Cover the Bundt pan with aluminum foil and place it in a larger baking dish. Create a water bath by adding hot water to the larger dish until it reaches halfway up the sides of the Bundt pan.
    • Bake for 1 hour or until a toothpick inserted into the chocolate cake comes out clean.
  6. Cool and Serve:
    • Remove the Bundt pan from the water bath and let it cool to room temperature. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight, to set.
    • To serve, run a knife around the edges of the pan to loosen the chocoflan. Invert it onto a serving plate, letting the caramel drizzle over the top.

Enjoy your Chocoflan, a dessert that’s as beautiful as it is delicious! Perfect for impressing guests or enjoying a sweet indulgence at home.
