Here’s a simple and delicious recipe for Picadillo:

Easy Picadillo

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 bell pepper, finely chopped (any color)
  • 2 medium potatoes, diced
  • 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1/2 cup peas (fresh or frozen)
  • 1/2 cup raisins (optional)
  • 1/4 cup sliced green olives (optional)
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil

Instructions:

  1. Cook the Beef:
    • In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat.
    • Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks.
  2. Add Aromatics:
    • Add the chopped onion, garlic, and bell pepper to the skillet.
    • Cook for 3-4 minutes until the vegetables are softened.
  3. Add Potatoes:
    • Stir in the diced potatoes and cook for another 5 minutes.
  4. Simmer with Sauce:
    • Pour in the tomato sauce and beef broth.
    • Add the ground cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper.
    • Stir well to combine.
  5. Simmer:
    • Reduce the heat to low and cover the skillet.
    • Let it simmer for about 20-25 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender.
  6. Add Final Ingredients:
    • If using, stir in the peas, raisins, and green olives.
    • Cook for an additional 5 minutes until everything is heated through.
  7. Serve:
    • Taste and adjust the seasoning if necessary.
    • Serve hot with rice, tortillas, or as a filling for tacos or empanadas.
